At the insteresction of Highway 6 and County Route 370, in Sterling, Colorado, the Overland Trail Park and Museum provides historical information and exhibits of the westward pioneer movement.

The museum itself, opened in 1936, exhibits the lifestyle and hardships the pioneers endured while heading westward on the Oregon Trail. The Overland Trail stage route was a branch of the Oregon Trail that followed the south bank of the South Platte River through northeastern Colorado. It is believed that this route may have been the heaviest traveled road in America from 1862 to 1868.
The yard in front of the museum's building is the site of this historical marker reading:
