"Feel the old wooden floor give slightly and squeak beneath your feet as you enter the oldest, continuously operating trading post on the Navajo Nation. As your eyes adjust to the dim lighting of the "bullpen" you might catch the trader negotiating a deal with a Native American artist for their art. You will experience history first hand at Hubbell Trading Post NHS."
That opening paragraph from the NPS website for Hubbell Trading sums up what the experience of visiting is better than most any visitor could express it.
It's a place where you truly can stand in the rug room and watch and listen as a trader negotiates with a Navajo rug weaver over the price of the rug. You can also see and tour the house where several generations of the Hubbell family lived for nearly 90 years.
Whether you merely visit and look around, buy something at the trading post or visitors center, take tour of the house, or immerse yourself in a different culture, Hubbell Trading Post is a unique part of our National Park Service.
