The Terminal Arcade was constructed as an interurban station for the Eastern Traction Company connecting Terre Haute and Indianapolis. It closed in January 1940 when the tracks were shut down due the age of automobiles. (Interesting that some areas of the country are trying to implement interurbans again.) From 1949 until 1972, the building was Terre Haute's bus station.
The building is of Beaux-Arts architecture design which features a flat roof, arched and pedimented entrance, symmetry, and sculpture (such as bas-relief panels). It is made of terra cotta, brick, limestone, and granite. Various designs building include lions, garlands, and fruits.
While the building's fate has been questioned over the years (to make space for "modern" facilities), since 1995 it has been a bar: Terminal Sports & Spirits.
