Fine large plantation located on Hwy. 87 just north of Jeanerette, LA. Home sits well off the highway surrounded by a grouping of Live Oak trees. Great brief history comes from a State of Louisiana Historical marker, located at the front drive, which states:
This house was built in 1850 by Francis D. Richardson on Bayou Teche in Greek Revival style of the period. Richardson, a classmate and friend of Edgar Allen Poe, purchased the land for a sugar plantation. Named Bayside because of dense growth of Bay trees nearby.
