Locally known as the "East Ridge Trail," this trail provides a fairly steep 1.7 mile hike up to 7800 feet, where the vista includes all of Butte and the entire Silver Bow Valley.

Take Exit 228 off of I-90. Turn east on Mt. Highland Dr and then north on Saddle Rock Rd. You'll see the trailhead sign off to your left, where there is a large parking area.
Along the Maud S Canyon trail, hikers will see evidence of Butte's former mining days, numerous birds of prey as they circle above on updrafts from the valley floor, as well as hundreds of different varieties of native flora.
