On the south wall inside the church is this commemorative plaque bearing the H.M.S. Yarmouth coat of arms. The inscription reads as follows:
'Presented to Filby from H.M.S. Yarmouth 1983.'

'In 1320 Gt Yarmouth supplied the King with 48 ships to fight at the battle of Sluys, twice the number sent by London. In recognition of the importance of this the King halved his coat of arms, the Royal Lions, with Gt Yarmouth's crest of three fish. Gt Yarmouth has carried on its proud tradition of supplying ships for HM Naval conflicts. In the Falkland Island operation 1982 HMS Yarmouth and MV Wimpey Seahorse.

The Yarmouth coat of arms description which is the same only it has three lions/herrings: The arms generally in use by the council show the gold lions on red of England dimidiated with three silver herrings on blue. This shield recalls the arms of the Cinque Ports and also suggests that the town is an important English fishing port. Two other arms are known for the city. Both show a shield divided per pale of the English lions and three herrings and of the herrings on a blue shield alone. The motto means The King and Our Rights.
