Ray Engebretson graduated from Lily High School and Huron College. He enlisted in the Naval Air Corps in 1942 and went overseas shortly before Christmas, 1943.
He served in the Marshall Islands, New Hibrides, Tinan, Saipan, and Bougainville before he transferred to the US Marine Corps and was sent to Honolulu. He was killed while on a night mission in the Pacific off the Hawaiian Islands.
As with many small towns, the American Legion post is instrumental in hosting activities for the locals of the area. This post is no exception. Its facility is used several times a year for activities other than Legion activities.
The post has a 2010 membership goal of 26 and currently stands at 23. The post is in District 4.
