The district of Suwannaphum (Saw-wan-a-phum) is one of the twenty districts of the Roi-Et province. A few thousand people live in the small town, the remainder of the population (~105,000, in 2008) live in the surrounding agricultural villages (rice).
As part of the necessities of life, this town has a bus station. As you would expect it is small. It consists of a covered area, with bus parking bays, surrounded by a wide paved area. Outside this paved area are a few shops and toilets. A handful of tuk-tuks and 'motor bike taxi drivers' sit around waiting for the occasional passenger.
The district is named after the legendary country Suwannaphum, which according to Thai tradition, was located in the Chao Phraya plain.
One thing to note, this district and the Thai international airport in Bangkok share the same name. Do not confuse the two! Colloquially transliterated into English as 'Swampy'.
