This carved statue is one of eight statues along a sculpture trail in Broxbourne Woods. The eight wooden pieces have themes that celebrate the ancient nature of the surrounding woodland.
Charcoal burning would have been an ancient occupation in these woods. The figure is of a charcoal burner resting on his shovel .
The trail was created in 2005 as a Woodland Trust project. The commission was placed with local artist Dan Cordell and was executed in oak.
