The Brushy Bayou Bridge was built 1919 as part of the West Fork Des Moines River rechanneling project. The bridge was closed to traffic for several years after the bridge was damaged by fire, but as of June 2010, the bridge is open to traffic. As of 1980, as a six year old boy, driving over this bridge was a highlight of a family trip to Emmetsburg.
