In addition to the above, a plaque on site details that the S.S. Canadiana as commissioned by the owners of the Crystal Beach Amusement Park under their Lake Erie Excursion Company. It was designed by Frank E. Kirby and constructed at the Buffalo Dry Docks.
The plaque goes on to document that the ship served as a ferry between Buffalo and Crystal Beach, making 6 trips a day. The ship itself cost $250,000 in 1910 and was able to reach speeds of 23 knots from its engine of 1,446 horse power. The ship had three decks for passengers and measured 216 ft in length and had a width of 56 ft. This afforded room for 3,500 passengers and they could enjoy the largest dance floor on the Great Lakes.
