Information about the town of Twin Bridges:
With a population 400, Twin Bridges is located near the Ruby Valley at the confluence of the Ruby River, Big Hole River, and Beaverhead Rivers three rivers which join to form the Jefferson River. This area is a favorite location for fly-fishing.
Four Indian trails join here also, near the bend in the Beaverhead River. These trails were later used by early settlers.
The name Twin Bridges refers to the two bridges built by Judge M.H. Lott (who relocated to Montana in 1862), and with his brother John T. Lott (who reloacted to Ruby Valley in 1864). In 1865 the Lott brothers built a bridge across the Beaverhead River, and later built another bridge across the Beaverhead at the location called "Point of Rocks". The Lotts also developed roads and promoted settlement of the town, which was eventually incorporated in 1902. M.H. Lott as the first mayor of Twin Bridges.
