Diners used to be manufactured by kits...and six of the ten manufacturers were based in northern New Jersey. The 1,000 Places to See Before You Die in the USA and Canada book cites several typical Jersey Diners: The White Mana in Jersey City (coordinates for this waymark) was originally a 1939 New York World's Fair's "World of Tomorrow" in Flushing Meadows Park, Queens; White Manna in Hackensack, Bendix Diner in Hasbrouck Heights; Tick Tock Diner in Clifton, the Harris Diner in East Orange, the Miss America Diner in Jersey City and the Summit Diner in Summit.
The diner experience is one where greasy burgers, breakfasts and other comfort food is available at any hour. The typical diner has stools and a counter and some leatherette booths.
