Life-size sculpture of a sower, located on top of a 5 foot tall pedestal on the campus of the University of Oklahoma. The Sower is located between the campus' Centennial Arches on the south end of Van Vleet Oval. It is a location where many of the students enter campus coming from the dorms.
The commons area north of the Sower and the arches is beautifully landscaped with flower beds and a fountain and a large sunken-in area for students to hang out in between classes to study.
The "Sower"
by Paul R. Moore
Sculptor in Residence
Installed in 2000, at the beginning of the new millennium.
The face of the Sower, which is taken from the University's seal, is that of David Ross Boyd, the University's first president.
The tablet on the south side of this base was originally placed in this location in 1950 marking the 60th anniversary of The University of Oklahoma.
The sculpture is a gift to the University from Dee Dee and Jon Stuart and the artist.

The University of Oklahoma
This is our heritage:
The traditional Sooner Spirit born at the crossroads of frontier migration, with its faith in the common man, its optimism for the morrow, its respect for the open mind, and its reliance upon divine leadership -- To it the faculty and staff of the University rededicate themselves on the Sixtieth Anniversary of the founding of the institution
From an OU brochure:
Our university seal features the Seed Sower, an emblem of our first university president, David Ross Boyd. Boyd walked across the Oklahoma prairies sowing the seeds of education, as well as literally planting many trees throughout the region. The Seed Sower statue at the entrance to our beautiful South Oval reminds us that we, too, should sow seeds today that will blossom in years to come. OU's motto, "Civi et Reipublicas," translated to "For the citizen and the state." and reminds us that an OU education prepares students to become future community leaders.
