The Churchill station is larger and more ornate than most other small town railway stations in Western Canada. This reflects the optimistic outlook of the Canadian National Railway for the economy of Northern Manitoba in the 1930's. The building's complex roof-line, hipped dormers and deep overhanging eaves give it an aesthetically pleasing and distinctive appearance, designed to impress both passengers and residents.
Parks Canada took ownership of the station and completely renovated it in 2002. This important part of Churchill's past is now protected for the future.

As well as still being used as a Train Station, it is also home to the Parks Canada Visitor Centre that features exhibits about the human and natural history of the area.
