On Route 102, one mile south of Tribbey is a well cared for cemetery. Within the cemetery is a large, granite war memorial "erected in gratitude to our hometown heroes. 1989"
The monument does not show who has dedicated it, and we assume it was the citizens of the local area. Six wars are noted: World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Civil War and Desert Storm. The names of over 200 local military men are listed according to the war in which they served. A * is placed next to the names of those who were killed in action.
This is an 8.5 foot granite monument, dedicated in 1989. The granite monument is mounted on a stairstep base about 4 ft. square, surrounded by a concrete area about 16 ft. square.
The town of Tribbey may be in decline, with the railroad departing in 1954, the post office moving to Macomb in 1958 and the school annexed to Wanette in 1967....but the town's heart is as strong and vibrant as ever.
