Svatý Bartolomej je jeden z dvanácti apoštolu.

Legenda o svatém Bartolomeji. Bartolomej pusobil u armenské královské rodiny. Král mel velice zurivou dceru, která pro bezpecí svoje i ostatních musela být pripoutána retezy. Bartolomej slíbil, že ji ve jmenu Ježíše Krista vylécí, pokud on sám prijme krestanství.
Král prislíbil. Bartolomej splnil svuj slib a dívku pomocí modliteb vylécil. Král a spousta jeho poddaných tak pristoupili na krestanství, to se ale nelíbilo pohanským knežím.

Kneží na nej poštvali králova bratra. Velkého pohana, který Bartolomeje zajal a mucil. Nakonec ho odsoudil k trestu smrti. V Persii se popravovalo stažením tela z kuže a ukrižováním hlavou dolu.

Po glorifikaci se Bartolomej díky svojí mucednické smrti rychle stal oblíbeným mucedníkem po celé Evrope. V Ceské republice je mu zasveceno nejvíce kostelu. Je dokonce patronem mesta Plzne. Dál je patronem spousty živností.

Díky svojí smrti mu byly dány tyto predmety do ikonografie: koželužský nuž, kríž, kuži, kniha, prapor.

Socha svatého Bartolomeje byla na katedrálu pridána roku 1663. Datováno podle rytí u sochy.

The legend of Saint Bartholomew. Bartholomew worked at the Armenian royal family. The King was very furious daughter, who for his safety and others had to be chained. Bartholomew promised it in the name of Jesus Christ heals, when he adopted Christianity.
The King has promised. Bartholomew has fulfilled its pledge to heal the girl using prayers. King and so many of his subjects came to Christianity, but it did not like the pagan priests.

The priests of rallying his brother the king. Great nations which Bartholomew captured and tortured. Finally, sentenced him to death. In Persia Executions are stricture from the skin and the body crucified upside down.

After glorifying the Bartholomew with his martyr's death quickly became a popular martyr throughout Europe. In the Czech Republic, most churches dedicated to him. It is even the patron saint of the city of Pilsen. Beyond is the patron of many trades.

With his death, he was given these items to Iconography: tanning knife, cross, leather, paper, banner.
