This free standing Corinthian column standing 154-feet tall was built in
1871. Its purpose was not to store water but rather it is standpipe to help
regulate water pressure from erratic steam driven pumps. This tower is
constructed of brick with a capital constructed of cast-iron. This tower went
out of service in 1912 when more reliable electric pumps went into service. "Old
White" has been threatened with demolition over the years but is now preserve
for the future.
