As an intra-urban place of residence the fountain
allegorises the unity and interrelation between person, animal and
water and shows with its figure groups, 26 water bubbles and
18 jets one of the towns landmarks of the Hanseatic town Rostock.
On the university place there's always hustle and
bustle. And because such a centrally situated and strongly visited
place also needs a fountain there's the modern in 1980 created
basin-less fountain "Brunnen
der Lebensfreude" with its bronze plastics.
At the university lying behind it in the style of the Italian
Renaissance, it is taught and researched for nearly 600 years. Here among other
things Max Planck and Albert Einstein taught.
Reinhard Dietrich born in 1932 in Wroclaw had studied
from 1953 to 1958
at the college for Plastic Arts Dresden. Since 1964 he was freelance
artistically active. From 1964 to 2003 he lived in Kneese Ausbau near
Rostock. Now he lives in Pillnitz near Dresden.
Joachim Jastram born in 1928 in Rostock finished in 1956
the study in Berlin with the certificate as a sculptor. From 1956 he
belonged to the association of the Plastic Arts of the German
Democratic Republic. From 1990 he was a member of the artist's alliance
of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania e. V. in the federal federation of
plastic artists. In January, 2011 Jastram died at the age of 82 years.
