The artillery pieces face Oak Ridge, an important battlefield element to the Gettysburg Battlefield Park. Down below is also Doubleday Avenue, on which is an entire line of memorials extending southeast along the ridge. The two cannons/rifles flank the the Orange Artillery Tablet, a Civil War monument/marker. The two Parrott rifles represent Fry's battery which took this location at the beginning of the battle on July 1, 1863. At least one is a replica. The Parrott rifle was a type of muzzle loading rifled artillery weapon used extensively in the American Civil War.
It is very typical for battery memorials to be flanked by period artillery. These two are in terrific shape. They show no signs of oxidation like their counterparts at East Cemetery HIll and the National Cemetery. They actually looked restored. The cannons have perfect wheels, caisson, limber and axels. The entire carriage is in terrific shape.
