This waymark is for a plaque denoting a historical event in Orange County. Currently, the only access to this site is by docent led hikes on the Irvine Ranch Conservancy. To sign up for a hike, go to www.irlandmarks.org and navigate to the Activities and Programs tab. Hikes to this spot are held approximately quarterly. You will want a hike that mentions Hangman's Tree as one of the destinations. The hike will be a strenous one, with a distance of at least 5 miles including very steep hills.
The text of the plaque is as follows
"UNDER THIS TREE GENERAL
ANDRES PICO HUNG TWO
BANDITOS OF THE FLORES
GANG IN 1857
DEDICATED
EL VIAJE DE PORTOLA RIDE
APRIL 1967"
Here are a couple of web sources for some information on the site and event
