I guess this old barber shop is no longer operating, but this great old barber pole is sure a relic from the past. Whereas most barber poles in the US are a revolving red-white-and-blue, this old wooden one is like the traditional poles with red and white stripes. The historical building is on a main street in the small community of Pisgah which sits in the valley of the Loess Hills. The small white building with the peeling paint has a sign over the door that designates it as a “1900 Bertha Hester Memorial.” It is also listed as the Original Old Bank of Pisgah, E. C. Hutchinson, 1900-1914; the C. E. Fairchild Real Estate, 1914-1944; and the Orson Babe (Pisgah’s Mr. Baseball) Barber Shop from 1944-1984. A sign in the window says “Closed. Free Haircuts Tomorrow.” Guess we’ll just have to come back.
