Located about 12 miles northeast of Aberdeen, Columbia, South Dakota, is a very small community in Brown County. There are no major highways intersecting the town.

It had a population of 134 as of July 2009 and its population has decreased about 4% since the 2000 census.

German, Irish, English, Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish immigrants settled the area and the town was incorporated in 1885.

Its claim to fame is that it is the oldest community in Brown County.

The James River flows near the town and flooding is a major issue for the community. In 2011 floodwaters engulfed most of the town and it was isolated by flooded roads in the vicinity.
