Willard Library is the oldest library in the state of Indiana. Construction began in 1877. It was formally opened in 1885. It is named after Willard Carpenter. Carpenter originally wanted to build "Willard College" but because of unfortunate investment collapses, he settled on building a library. Also unfortunately for Carpenter, the construction of the library outlasted his life, as he passed away in 1883 before his vision was completed.
Today, this library is world famous for the geneology department. The entire top floor is dedicated to geneology.
There is also rumors that the library is haunted by "The Grey Lady". The television show "TAPS" did an episode from the library, finding no paranormal activity during their stay.
Willard Library was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972
