Aloha! San Diego's Mira Mesa neighborhood is often thought of as a largely Filipino and Vietnamese neighborhood (with, of course, people of many other ethnicities living there as well), but there is a goodly number of people from Hawaii here too. Hawaiian plate-lunch restaurants come and go hereabouts, but there are always at least a couple of places in the neighborhood where you can get a tasty loco moco, or, if you want to go with the "healthy" option, some Spam musubi and some Primo beer!

The prolific utility-box artist known as KIZ has honored this part of Mira Mesa's heritage by depicting for us a Hawaiian lady silhouetted in front of a beach sunset, and some colorful tropical flowers, along with the message "Aloha, Welcome to Mira Mesa." She signs the painting "Mahalo, KIZ". ("Mahalo" is "thank you" or "with respect".)

The painting of utility boxes in the Mira Mesa neighborhood of San Diego is sponsored by the Mira Mesa Town Council (a volunteer/business organization) and has been spearheaded by the Mira Mesa High School art department. See (visit link) for more information.

There are photos of about 30 of the other Mira Mesa utility boxes, some with info about the artists, at (visit link) .
