Because the general trend over the past few decades has been for more people to leave Fountain Green than arrive to take their place, there are now more buildings than people in the community. But those buildings are largely of brick construction, due to a once thriving brick making industry in the area.
Fountain Green is an apt name for a town that sits among lush farmland watered by Silver Creek which emanates from Big Spring above the town.
The town once had the nickname "Wool City" because of all the sheep that were raised in the area, but now about half the "ranchers" raise turkeys. Sheep raising is still celebrated in the annual "Lamb Day" extravaganza. Picture a picnic with sheep being barbecued underground and a rodeo with cattle replaced by sheep.
