Located at the intersection of Interurban Ave South and 52nd Ave South in Tukwila, Washington (next to the Foster Links golf course) is a concrete barrier that has "Time Capsule 1985" stamped into it.
Who knows what is stored in the capsule? That is unknown, but hopefully the contents will be of more interest than the Tukwila time capsule that was set in 1978 by former Mayor Ed Bauch, when Tukwila was a city of about 4,000 people, and opened in June, 2008, when the city had grown to about 15,000.
The 1978 time capsule was a modest, standard issue aluuminum corrigated garbage can, lined with a black garbage bag liner, and buried under a ceremonial stone (provided by a local Masonic lodge). When opened, the bounty included city land-use packets, a roster of city employees from 1978, a phone book and the 1978 city budget, drawings from Tukwila Elementary School students including one created by Josh Patton, who attended the time capsule opening ceremony. Now 39 years old, Patton appeared proud of his creation from his third grade year, which included the text: "Be Cool Obey the Rule."
Bumper stickers and buttons from the 1978 time capsule declared, "Tukwila, next to the largest city in Washington."
