This hut is maintained by Metsähallitus, the Finnish forestry service. It is on the shore of Pöyrisjärvi, and is surrounded by the "sand desert" of the Pöyrisjärven erämaa alue (wilderness area). It is a beautiful place.
The cabin is a combined autiotupa (open hut) and varaustupa (reservable hut). To reserve the cabin and obtain the key for the locked (reservable) half of the hut go to the Skierri nature centre in Hetta (and don't forget to see the Sami history exhibit while you are there). The varaustupa side costs €10 per person per night, the autiotupa side is free.
Full details of the hut are available on the luontoon.fi website.
The varaustupa side sleeps 14, and the autiotupa side 12, giving a total of 26. However, it would be pretty crowded if full to capacity!
Outside there is an earth toilet, an outside fireplace. Inside there is a wood stove, gas cooker and sink (water is available in plentiful supply in the lake!)
During the long winter months this hut is only accessible by snowmobile. In the summer it is accessible by foot, mountain bike, by ATV and by 4WD vehicle
