Located in an alcove in St. Patrick's Cathedral, this statue portrays the Saint in clerical garb with a scroll in his left hand and his right hand slightly pointing as if he were calling on a student. He has a look of determination. The accompanying plaque explains that St. John devoted his life to the education of children and teachers. By 1980, 1,700 brothers were teaching in his order.
De La Salle (1651-1719) was born in Reims, France. he was canonized in 1900. Read more about him at (
