Hans G. BJORNESTAD

Age 68, died peacefully at home with family on October 30, 2000. Born on
August 15, 1932 in Stavanger, Norway. Hans immigrated to the United States
with his wife, Bette, in 1956, on a student visa to attend the University
of Colorado, where he received his Bachelor of Science and Masters degree in
Engineering. They settled in Seattle in the spring of 1962 where Hans began
a long, distinguished career with Boeing. He retired after 34 years while
holding the position of Program Director. Hans and Bette moved to Mercer
Island to raise their family in 1965. Hans was an avid outdoors and
sportsman. He could always be found enjoying his time with his family
skiing, playing ten nis and golf, sailing and windsurfing, fishing and
hunting, or taking long walks in the local parks. There was never a day he
didn't enjoy. He traveled throughout the U. S., Canada and Europe in search
of powder skiing. His love for boating brought him to the San Juan Islands
and Hood Canal. Later, Hans enjoyed spending time at one of their two family
retreats at Alpental and Hood Canal. Hans was a man that always placed the
importance of his family first. And while he had an outstanding career, it
was his experience with his family and friends that he held most dear. His
life was cut short, however the richness by which he spent his years serve
as an inspiration for all that knew him. His wife of 47 years, Bette; his
daughters, Anne and Lisa; and sons, Hans and John, survive him. Six
grandchildren, Jamie, Samantha, Christopher, Payden, Ellie and Kire, all of
Mercer Island, also survive him.
