Bar DV8—Phnom Penh, Cambodia. - Neon Signs on Waymarking.com

Back in the day (the mid-late 90s) the DV8 Club was the place to be seen in Phnom Penh. It was much larger back then, a focus point for many of the westerners (largely men) who found themselves, for whatever reasons, cast onto the shores of the Mekong River. Inside was food, drink, hostesses, and a relaxing, convivial environment. Outside the street was filled with pimps, hookers, little old ladies selling sausages on a stick, vendors selling trinkets and junk of all description, screaming children and busy adults, plus the street was fouled with uncollected, odoriferous garbage. Way to go, an exciting time.

Now the middle class has taken over the river front. The streets are clean, the kids are in school (at least the middle class kids), and a few down from the DV8 ('D' 'V' '8'—you get that, right?) is an antique store! Times are a changing.

All that is left is a single sign. Great days.
