Les Invalides is a complex of buildings which once served as a veterans hospital. Now, the chapel houses Napoleon's tomb..as well as other Bonapartes and French military heroes.
This 1833 statue of Napoelon I is by French artist Charles Marie Émile Seurre (1798–1858). It depicts the Emperor is the stance known around the world....standing, looking intently down at the courtyard, wearing a long coat and with his hand in his shirt. He also wears the hat that we come to associate with Napoleon...and a sword and medals.
Napoleon I (1769-1821) was Emperor of the French from 1804 to 1815. He ruled during turbulent times..and his reign was interupped by a brief restoration of the monarchy...only to see Napoleon come back for another 94 days until he abdicated and Louis XVIII took power.
