At each of the eight angles of the octagonal Place de la Concorde are small buildings which have a sculpted representation of a major French city above it. This one, represents the city of Brest. It depicts a young woman seated and wearing a long gown and a crown. She holds an oar(?) in her right hand. Her left hand rests on the cannon which she is sitting on.
Wikipedia (
visit link) informs us that the artist is Jean-Pierre Cortot
who also did the sculpture for the city of Rouen.
