The ancient village of
Marvão - of Moorish origins, whose toponym is due to the Moorish leader
Maruan - and the nearby settlements are linked by centuries with a dense network of Roman roads.
Some of these roads are still in use, others are already covered by tar mats, others are likely to be confused with the vegetation, which in these parts, grows really fast.
This roman road is part of that an ancient network of roads, and probably connected Marvão to the main Roman road between Cáceres (Norba Caesarina) and the Roman Villa of Ammaia (where there are still important remains).
