This marker is located on private land (1431 Bates Rd), which backs up to cattle pasture that can be crossed for access, assuming the visitor is responsible and well-behaved.

Marker Text:
Discovered by white men in 1848. Permanent white settlement began in this region in 1858. Its early history is a long story of Indian raids. In memory of pioneer women, who, in the midst of such dangers, daily risked their lives for others, this monument is erected. Erected by the State of Texas 1936
