This church in the village of Elsecar which now comes under the Hoyland district had the foundation stone laid by The 5th Earl Fitzwilliam who paid for the building of the church. Completed in two years it was consecrated by the Archbishop of York on Whit Monday 1843. The churchyard was used for burials from 1843 to 1908. A churchyard extension was opened on land across the road from the church. In 1929 further land was required and this was opened behind the church and became a public cemetery.
There are three bells in the tower and three clock faces.
Building is GradeII listed.
