The most prominent feature of Mt. Soledad is the Veterans memorial at it's crest represented by a 43 foot Christian cross. The cross has been the subject of much controversy and litigation due to the charge that the cross is/was a government-sponsored religious monument.
You can also see one of the nearby "Munchkin Houses"- subject of one of San Diego's urban legends. (The homes, now only one remains, were built on a hillside and present an optical illusion of being built for small people. Since The Wizard of Oz was released around the same time as the homes' construction... the legend built that the homes were built for the film's Munchkins...but, none of that is true. See (
