visit link) but to summarize, the paper began publishing on September 22, 1893 immediately after the Cherokee Strip Outlet opened for settlement of the area. It first operated as the Enid Weekly Eagle from 1893-1899, then as the Sun Eagle and the Enid Eagle.
From 1901-1989, a weekday publication known as the Enid Daily Eagle was published. The daily publication known as the Daily News & Eagle has been published since 1989. Additional papers were merged in February 1923 under the Enid Publishing Company organization.
