Walking past the historic Myeongdong Theater, built in 1934 by the occupying Japanese, the Golden Arches can bee seen on a glass-fronted building squeezed into the mix of other foreign food franchises and Korean restaurants and boutiques. In fact, this may be the only McDonalds in the world with a Starbucks on the second floor above it. A Korean restaurant is on the third floor. But, such is the life in this vertical city.
Myeongdong has long been a magnet for the young, trendy set with its modern shopping venues, theaters, and upscale eateries. There is also a lesser known, but extensive underground shopping area that stretches for blocks - another common element of life in the capital city.
