The Oregon Short Line Railroad, a subsidiary of the Union Pacific, reached West Yellowstone in 1906. In 1912, rail service was extended from Ashton, Idaho south into the Teton Valley with the rail line ending in Victor, Idaho. The two-story Victor Railroad Depot was completed in 1914. By the 1920’s, Victor was the busiest passenger entry-point from the west into Jackson, Wyoming and Grand Teton National Park. Victor was also the principal livestock shipping point for western Wyoming and southeast Idaho. Up until 1970, a mix train provided freight and passenger service to Victor. Freight service continued until 1981. Following abandonment of the line the depot building was sold and converted into apartments. The Depot was placed on the National Register on April 27, 1995.
In May 2011, the City of Victor purchased the building for use as the City Hall. In addition an pavilion will be built nearby to serve as an interpretive center for the history of the Teton Scenic Byway corridor. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2012.
