Fremont County was originally part of Bingham County which was established in 1883. In 1894, Fremont County was established from Bingham County. St. Anthony was founded in 1890 by C.H. Moon and the railroad arrived in 1899. The two-story brick courthouse with basement was built in 1909 according to the date on corner stone at the southeast corner of the building. The building was designed by the Idaho architectural firm of Wayland & Fennell. The courthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on Jan. 8, 1979.
