A plaque on the front of the church outlines that Methodism began in Wollongong in the 1830s. The first church on this site was constructed in 1854. In 1977 Methodist, Presbyterian & Congregational churches combined to form the Uniting Church of Australia.
The church is a heritage listed building. The NSW Heritage database (
visit link) describes (in part) the church as: Gothic. Sandstone walls and buttresses. Asbestos shingle roof. Exposed arched roof beams internally. Original oak shingles destroyed by fire in 1902.
The church faces the Wollongong Mall on Lower Crown St.
