This statue, Men of Vision by Malcolm J. Mackenzie, was erected to honour working cowboys at the site of Alberta's first major ranch, the Cochrane Ranche. It is a prominent landmark overlooking the modern town of Cochrane from a hilltop in Cochrane Ranche Park.
The park also has interpretive displays about the history of the area and of ranching in Alberta.
The dedication plaque near the statue reads:
Malcolm J Mackenzie, 1978 'Men of Vision'
Commissioned by Alberta Culture for Cochrane Ranche Historic Site to commemorate the working cowboy of early ranching days.
Unveiled May 21, 1979
'Men of vision guard the trust,
This land so much desired
To whom much is given,
Much will be required.
God gave stout hearts to the pioneers,
Their legacy to you,
Change and progress, hand in hand,
Twas thus Alberta grew.'
Ray Bagley,
Alberta pioneer
