This life size statue was created by sculptor Ronnie Wells, of Salado, Texas. The bronze statue stands upon a plinth of black marble and granite embellished with a cast bronze plaque with the name of the statue and Mr. Campbell's dates of birth and death. The statue depicts Mr. Campbell in a casual pose with his sport jacket removed and slung over his shoulder as he strides along smiling, gesturing as if sharing an enjoyable moment with his companions.

"Gene" Campbell was a figure of considerable stature in the area in and around Montgomery County Texas. Some information, excerpted from his obituary as published in the Houston Chronicle:

After a stint in the military, Campbell returned to Cleveland, Texas in 1955 and worked for his father moving houses but he had his eye on other another opportunity and eventually took over a bulldozer business, but this new venture didn't quite satisfy his passion. Gene worked the next 30 years building Campbell Ready Mix Concrete Company. He began with 1- five-yard concrete truck in Cleveland and expanded the company to include 225- nine-yard concrete trucks operating out of 17 plants in Cleveland, Livingston, Hempstead, Spring and Houston. During the 1990's Campbell Ready Mix was one of the largest privately owned companies in the State of Texas. After selling Campbell Ready Mix in 1996-98, Mr. Campbell entered into the land business. Over the next few years he had numerous dealings in Walker & Montgomery County with many high-profile individuals including George Mitchell, father of The Woodlands.
