This picture came from a display on a Walking Tour of Gathland State Park.
The stop says "In the summer we take our meals at the Lodge, a stone building of about 24 feet square with a long frame kitchen attached and a bell in the belfry above." Built in 1885 the Lodge served as living quarters for the cook and as a summer dining room. The wooden kitchen extension, porch and belfry have long since disappeared. Townsend inscribed the name of his wife, Bess and the date into the cornerstone.
