Very few people know this facility exists. It is on the eastern side of Cane Mountain, off Thompson Mill Road. The coordinates will take you to a loggable benchmark (EZ3081), from which the building is visible. Also on the mountain is an abandoned brick structure which once housed microwave relay equipment for WUNC. Administration and security of the observatory is handled by UNC Greensboro.
