Hallock was named after Charles Hallock, the founder of the magazine, Forest and Stream. He was an avid sportsman who purchased one of the early town building sites and built Hotel Hallock, a place for travelers and sportsmen. The town built up and now Hallock is the county seat of Kittson County.
