Built in 1895, this was one of the last brick structures built on this portion of East Main street. The building is named for the builders, Spenser Childers and Dr. B.F. Adkins. On completion, Childers sold his interest (the eastern half of the building) to F.F. Duell, a harness maker. The western half remained in Adkins ownership and was used as a dry goods store. A remodeling effort in 1900 on the eastern half converted it into use as a dry good store as well. Meanwhile, the upper floor was the Woodsman's Hall and offices. In the 1910s Lamports, a sporting goods and saddlery retailer, moved into the western store and by the 1930s, Lamports owned both halves of the building. By the 1940s, the upper floor was converted to use as rental apartments, typical of many building in downtown Medford during that era. Today, the western portion of the building is occupied by an "organic cafe" while vacancies are available on the east side and upper floor. A number of interesting mosaics are found around the entryways.
