H.S. Gile House - Salem, Oregon - Victorian Style Architecture on Waymarking.com

This Queen Anne house was built around 1903 for Herman S. Gile and his wife Minnie. Mr. Gile was an agriculturalist, known as a leading fruit buyer and shipper on the Pacific coast. He was born in Ontario, Canada, and came to Salem in 1889. He co-organized the Willamette Valley Prune Association, which later became known as H.S. Gile and Company. He also organized the Pheasant Fruit Juice Company, later known as the Phez Company. The Giles sold this house in 1910. The NRHP District Nomination Form declares that (as of 1987) "...the house has remained essentially unchanged since it was illustrated, soon after it was built, in the Oregon Statesman for Jan. 1, 1905."
