A 7' high by 9' by 8' granite U-shaped exedra topped by a 5' high wooden cannon was designed by Emily O. Wheeler and dedicated on August 6, 1885. The monument honor the citizens of Sharon who enlisted in the Union forces during the Civil War. The cannon replaces the original metal cannon which fell into disrepair. On either side of the front of the exedra are carved sunbursts. Carved cannonballs are located at the end of the benches nearest to the central pedestal.
The four faces of the central pedestal are about a 3' high by 3.5' wide. Each face has an 2' square polished and inscribed dado.
